The Nissan Kicks 2026, a second-generation compact SUV, arrives with third-gen e-POWER, available e-4ORCE AWD, and a bolder exterior — starting from ¥2,999,700.
Nissan has officially launched the second-generation Kicks in Japan, with sales beginning June 18th. The new model marks a significant step forward for the popular compact SUV, introducing Japan’s first third-generation e-POWER hybrid system alongside an all-new AWD option in the form of e-4ORCE — a first for the Kicks nameplate.
The outgoing Kicks already built a strong following on the back of Nissan’s series-hybrid e-POWER setup, praised for its EV-like driving feel without the need to charge. The new generation doubles down on that formula while addressing key areas including fuel efficiency, ride quality, cabin technology, and design presence.
“The Kicks is an important model that delivers the value of electrification technology to more customers in Japan — with Nissan’s own commitment to design, performance, and comfort packed into every detail.”
— Zen Sugimoto, Executive Officer, Nissan Japan Marketing & Sales
Third-Gen e-POWER: Smaller, Quieter, More Efficient

At the heart of the new Kicks is an updated 5-in-1 e-POWER electric unit — a single integrated assembly combining the motor, generator, inverter, reduction gear, and speed increaser. The compact design saves space and weight while improving structural rigidity. Paired with a 1.4-litre dedicated generator engine, the system delivers improved fuel economy and a noticeably quieter cabin compared to its predecessor.
For buyers who want AWD capability, Nissan now offers e-4ORCE across the Kicks range. The system integrates motor torque and brake control to sharpen cornering response and smooth ride comfort. A dedicated SNOW mode (e-4ORCE grades only) rounds out the all-weather capability.
Design: Athletic Stance, Personality on the Details
The exterior takes a more aggressive direction than before, drawing front-face inspiration from an American football helmet — wide horizontal grille, signature LED lamp treatment, and a stance that reads wider and lower than the outgoing car. Lower-spec grades feature a dimple pattern on bumpers and side sills inspired by sneaker soles. The top-spec G grade opts for gloss black exterior trim for a cleaner, more premium look.
Inside, soft-touch materials cover the instrument panel, centre console, and door trims. Nissan claims class-leading knee room, head room, and rear cabin width, with zero-gravity seats now extending to the outer rear positions. A 12.3-inch dual-display system with Google Maps integration is available on select grades.
Safety Gets a Meaningful Upgrade
ProPilot driver assistance is standard across the entire range. The new Intelligent Around View Monitor adds a 3D view, front wide-view, and invisible hood view — useful for navigating tight intersections. The Intelligent Emergency Brake system now better detects pedestrians, oncoming vehicles, and cross traffic at intersections. New additions include Blind Spot Intervention, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Nine body colour options are available at launch, including the two-tone Resonance Blue finish. The all-new Kicks is on sale at Nissan dealerships nationwide from June 18th, 2026.
The new Kicks enters a competitive compact SUV segment in Japan, but Nissan’s e-POWER advantage remains hard to match. The series-hybrid setup — where the engine only generates electricity and never directly drives the wheels — continues to deliver a uniquely smooth, EV-like driving experience that buyers in this segment respond well to. With the addition of e-4ORCE AWD and a sharper design language, the second-generation Kicks 2026 is arguably the most complete version of the car yet.
